Sunday 10th May saw Farnsfield Cricket Club, the Northern Regional Champions, take on Waltham CC, the Southern Regional Champions, in the 2025 National Final of the ECB Vitality T20 Club Plate. The final had originally been scheduled for September last year but was rearranged due to bad weather.
Having won the toss, Farnsfield elected to bat first and posted an impressive 159 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs. Captain Joel Brett led from the front with a superb unbeaten 70, earning him the Player of the Match award. Valuable contributions also came from Dom Cumming (32), Alex Ainger (22), and Krrish Patel (18). A crucial 58-run partnership between Jack Rogers and Joel Brett further strengthened the innings.
Disciplined bowling, including a three-wicket haul from Alex West, combined with excellent catches from James Bowker and Joel Brett, restricted Waltham’s chase. One pivotal moment came when Krrish Patel produced a magnificent catch off Alex Ainger’s bowling to dismiss Shahbaz Khan, Waltham’s top scorer. Waltham eventually finished on 135 for 7, giving Farnsfield a memorable 24-run victory.
The match was watched by more than 40 supporters from the club, and the Farnsfield team greatly appreciated their backing on what proved to be a fantastic day of cricket — and a result the club is immensely proud of.
Representing the Bassetlaw and District Cricket League, Farnsfield CC became the first team from Nottinghamshire to be crowned National Champions in this competition.
