Bassetlaw and District Cricket League – John Mallen T20 Trophy Final
Venue: Station Lane, Farnsfield
Date: Sunday 5 July 2026
Result – Farnsfield CC Won by 5 wickets
Worksop CC 157 for 7 Farnsfield CC 158 for 5 (19.1 overs)
After progressing through four qualifying rounds during May and June, Farnsfield Cricket Club and Worksop Cricket Club met in a highly anticipated John Mallen T20 Trophy Final at Station Lane.
For Worksop CC, it was their first appearance in the final for several years, while Farnsfield CC entered the match as the reigning John Mallen T20 Trophy holders. The hosts also came into the contest as the 2025 ECB Vitality T20 Club Plate Northern Regional Champions and reigning National Champions, having defeated Waltham CC in last year’s national final.
Winning the toss, Worksop CC elected to bat and made a solid start to their innings. Despite a number of wickets falling through the middle and latter stages of the innings, Worksop posted a competitive 157 for 7 from their 20 overs. Overseas player Jay Noorbergen was the standout performer, producing an excellent innings of 88 runs. Chasing 158 for victory, Farnsfield made an aggressive start, matching the required run rate from the outset. However, the home side also lost wickets at regular intervals, ensuring the contest remained finely balanced throughout.
Calm, sensible batting from the middle order, followed by some powerful late hitting, saw Farnsfield edge closer to their target before reaching the winning total in the final over of an absorbing contest. Captain Joel Brett led by example with a composed and unbeaten 50, guiding his side to victory and earning the Player of the Match award.
The victory means Farnsfield Cricket Club retain the John Mallen T20 Trophy, becoming 2026 Champions for the second successive year.
Success in the competition also earns Farnsfield the honour of representing the Bassetlaw and District Cricket League in the ECB Vitality T20 Club Plate national competition. FCC will face Ackworth CC on Sunday 9th August at Ackworth CC.
Farnsfield will enter this year’s tournament as the defending Northern Regional and National Champions, having completed a remarkable double in 2025 by lifting both titles, culminating in victory over Waltham CC in the national final.
